It has been said that most decisions we make have a financial element to them. Whether it is a large decision such as buying a car, or a vacation, college, the purchase of a house or whether it is a smaller decision such as daily necessities, clothes, groceries, entertainment or gifts, these decisions involve finances. Large or small, short or long term, finances are a key and critical aspect of our lives. In other words, we need to be knowledgeable, plan and manage well, be in control of our money, manage spending and successfully carry out all responsibilities associated with our finances.

Sometimes some of us experience financial loss or indebtedness. Many of us may not be at a crisis in our financial lives, but we have some consumer debt or credit card debt that we would like to eliminate. Perhaps we want to accelerate our mortgage payments but we aren’t quite sure how to develop a plan to accomplish that goal.

We invite you to attend “Debt Reduction,” part of our “Managing Your 90%” financial workshop series. This workshop is free of charge, and was designed by Good $ense Ministry of Willow Creek Church. The content especially targets those who have credit card or consumer debt and who want to develop a debt reduction plan.

It will be helpful for you to prepare some materials prior to the class. Make and bring a list of all creditors, the total amount owed, interest rates and minimum monthly payments. Also it will be helpful to bring a calculator if you have one. This pre-work is strongly encouraged and will make the workshop more valuable and productive.

A two-person teaching team will conduct the presentation on Powerpoint. You will work through handouts completing your personal materials in-class. The presentation will be followed with a question and answer panel. The teaching is conducted in a way for everyone’s personal finances to be held in confidence. It will be a classroom setting, and NHC Budget Counselors will be available to assist you, answer questions and guide you through any of the materials as needed. Follow-up counseling will be available to those attending the workshop, if desired.
