Dan and Marcia have been a joyful and faithful part of the NHC
family for a number of years and are actively involved in the “serving” ministries.
Recently their family experienced the trials and testings of life,
as well as some amazing miracles from God. Marcia shares their
story…
Several weeks ago Pastor Steve taught on the subject of faithfulness.
How my family and I needed to be reminded of God’s faithfulness
especially during times of despair and crisis. God gave me a renewed
strength and courage in what was to come in the next weeks.
Our grandson, Carter, was born with a rare liver disease called
Biliary Atresha. Babies who are born with this disease have an
85 percent rate of needing a liver transplant in their life. Each
case differs at what age that may occur. We prayed it would be
years before he actually would need a transplant. God had His plan
already in place and it was different than ours. You see, God wanted
to show us and all those who have come into contact with Carter
that He was in control and still doing miracles daily.
Carter’s health deteriorated quicker than we had even imagined
it would. He was put on the transplant list in June. There were
74 others ahead of Carter. People are put on the list according
to how quickly they are in need of a liver. Carter began to retain
fluid, meaning t that his liver was starting to fail. We know of
the power of prayer, so we enlisted our prayer chain in addition
to family members who put Carter on their church’s prayer
chains. Hundreds were lifting this baby to Jesus to work a miracle.
Only one month after being put on the transplant list, on July
7, we received a call from the transplant doctor. We heard the
words we and so many others had been praying for, “We have
a possible liver for Carter. Can you be here in an hour?” We
were singing praises to our King all the way to the hospital. To
be called so soon after being put on the list was miraculous!
The liver that he received fit into his body cavity “as
if it were made for him,” the doctors said. We were told
of many complications that follow a good majority of transplants.
Everything from bleeding, to blood clots, to infections, besides
rejection of the new liver. They did scans in surgery after everything
was connected and everything looked okay. As they kept scanning
over the next three days, things looked perfect. The liver was
functioning quicker and better than they had ever seen.
The doctors came in each day, amazed at how well everything was
going. God was healing this little boy before our eyes and how
we cried with gratitude and praise. Seeing his eyes that were so
yellow turn to pure white for the first time brought tears to all
who cared for him. Carter was out of Intensive Care by the morning
of the fourth day. He came home nine days after his surgery. Today,
he’s home playing and looking healthier than we have ever
seen him. All the levels that were elevated and dangerous are normal
now. The doctors comment that this surgery was a perfect success.
They used the word “luck” quite often. God gave me
a new acronym for LUCK – Leaning Upon Christ my King. I shared
that with his surgeons and nurses and they agreed, God had worked
through them to save Carter’s life.
We know whatever Carter does in life, God will use him in a powerful
way to serve Him and give Him praise. Thank you for all your prayers
for us and for Carter’s parents. We know our Redeemer lives!
Praise and honor and glory to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
He is faithful!
