hey! who turned out the lights?! << previous page

Have you ever felt like all the lights went out around you? Teresa had experienced that for years, spiritually and even literally in bad dreams. It was when she gave up searching for truth and light in other places that she met the One who “turned on the light”–the true Light in her life.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” –Psalm 119:105

The Lord called me to follow Him 18 years ago. Shortly thereafter, I had a dream where I was in a house and all the lights went out. I was terrified. I frantically ran through the house, trying to turn on the lights. I tried the light switches and lamps, but they would not work. I woke up terrified.

Having this dream went on for 16 years–sometimes once a week. Then, I had the dream again one night. As usual, the lights went out and I frantically ran through the house trying to get light. Suddenly, I stopped. I stood in the dark and said, “The Lord is my Light and Salvation. Of whom shall I fear?”

The dream ended and I awoke, no longer afraid. It’s been two years and I haven’t had the dream since. I believe God used this dream to show me how I had been looking for truth in all the wrong places. It was when I started to look to Him alone as my source of truth that I began to experience the cloud of darkness lifting and the fear disappear.

All my life I ran here and there, looking for light, truth and life. Before I accepted the Lord into my life, I searched for light in various places, like through astrology. After the Lord called me, I still looked for light through one counselor after the other. I also opened myself up to false teaching. In addition, I thought that “following all the rules” would bring me prosperity.

Now, my running has stopped. I know my Light is in Jesus alone. John 1:9 says, “That was the true light which gives light to every man who comes into the world.” I now find God’s Light in His Word. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” John 1:14 also says, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” I finally discovered the true Light of this World in Jesus and in His Word of truth. Spending time going to Him for my answers has brought Light into my darkness!
