Family: My bride is Leslie. We have a son named Owen, and our fur-child is a yellow lab named Caribou. Education: B.A., Gustavus Adolphus College (2000); M.Div., Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (2005); Ph.D. student in Theological Studies/New Testament, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (currently). Equipped for Service : The single greatest gift God has given me for this pastorate is a passion for his renown, to magnify the name of Jesus Christ for the joy of the people to whom I minister. He has also blessed me with a deep love for his people, and with a desire to understand and teach his Word. Prepared for Service : In all
honesty, my seminary experience at Trinity was the most important preparation
experience so far. It gave me the tools I need to teach and preach
the Scriptures effectively and accurately so that I may "rightly handle
the Word of truth." Appreciation for NHC: I love the leadership of this church and their desire to reach this community. Too often churches are unwilling to evolve in order to become "all things to all people" in order that they might win some. I admire the leadership for evolving for the sake of the progress of the Gospel. I also appreciate the love, warmth and community that Leslie and I have felt in our time here. Free Time: I love spending all the time I can with my wife and Caribou. I love reading and studying, hiking, backpacking, canoeing, snowshoeing and just about anything else outdoors. I also spend a good bit of time writing for my blog, "The Weight of Glory." Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:31 impacts everything I do. "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." There is nothing more precious, more valuable, and more to be cherished than the glory of God. I believe all that we do as followers of Christ ought to be aimed at magnifying his glory. Recommended Resources: Some of the authors who have had the greatest impact on me have been C.S. Lewis (especially "The Weight of Glory"), John Piper (especially "Desiring God" and "The Pleasures of God"), and John Owen (especially "On the Mortification of Sin"). I also love anything by Jonathan Edwards, Henry Scougal, D.A. Carson, C.J. Mahaney, R.C. Sproul and J.I. Packer. Monergism.com and Between Two Worlds are edifying and daily stops on the web for me. Most of the albums by Shane Barnard and Shane Everett, as well as Sovereign Grace Ministries, have been very significant means of worship for me. |
