Family: I have two parents, two brothers, two sisters-in-law, and one
adorable niece and one adorable nephew.
Education background: I graduated from Calvin College
with a bachelor¹s
degree in Psychology and a Business minor.
Equipped for Service: My organizational skills became apparent
early on. At the age of three, my parents began referring to me as the
cruise director!
Along with that, I've always had a passion for serving others. For me,
there has always been a powerful desire that God's work in my life be reflected
in my actions to others.
Prepared for Service: I've always had a heart for serving others. During
college and the years since, I've had opportunities to volunteer in a variety
of settings which gave me exposure and insight into some of society's needs.
In addition, the years I spent working in Human Resources in the corporate
environment provided experience in developing projects and programs. It
also helped me gain a deep appreciation for how each person has a need
to be recognized as an individual who has value. As I've been prepared
in tangible ways, God has also been at work in my heart building a passion
to provide opportunities for others to serve out their faith and God's
love in ways that impact his kingdom.
Appreciation for NHC: I really appreciate the heart of everyone here at
NHC, from the lifelong members to those that have recently started attending.
We have a commitment to be real in our joys, our struggles and our vision.
The result is that we are continually moving forward together in grace
with a focused goal to live out his purpose. It is here at New Hope Church
that I learned for the first time the true meaning of koinonia and what
it means to be a part of a church body. I am so grateful for that.
Free Time: I love spending time with friends and family, be it cooking,
playing games or just sitting on the porch talking. I've recently discovered
I love making cards for people as well. Right now though, it takes about
an hour for each one, so I haven't actually made all that many! When I'm
not with other people, I love to read. I'll tell myself I'm only going
to read a chapter or two and before I know it, I'm half-way through the
book!
Scripture: Exodus 4:10-12: "Then Moses said to the Lord, ŒO
my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to
Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.¹ So the
Lord said to him, ŒWho has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute,
the deaf, the seeing, or the blind?
Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth
and teach you what you shall say.¹² And Ephesians 2:8-10: "For
by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves;
it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are
his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared
beforehand that we should walk in them."
Recommended Resources: Christian fiction: Most anything by Ted Dekker.
He has an amazingly creative way of sharing God's love and passion for
his creation. Absolute page-turners that continually teach me new things
about God.
Devotional: "Streams in the Desert," by Charles
E. Cowman. I've been reading it since college and am consistently amazed
at how often a new (to me) truth of God's pops out at me at the exact
time I need it.
Other books: "Purpose Driven Life," by Rick
Warren, "Soul
Cravings," by Erwin McManus and "Screwtape Letters," by
C.S. Lewis.
